Fallen Hero?

I really hope this isn't true....

I read this book "Three Cups of Tea" while I was in Iraq and thought it was great how someone could help Afghanistan and Pakistan by just building schools.  It started a chain of thinking for me about how we could change the world without violence if we could just educate people.  Without the ability to read or write, or even the freedom to, children in these countries have no choice but to believe the teachings of the Muslim extremist.

According to the article above even General Patreus and President Obama were moved by this book.

I hope some of it is still true, at least the part about building schools.

Even if it isn't, I still think only education can win the hearts and minds in this global war on terror.

  1. Well, I'm glad I never got around to reading that one... I know it was on almost every military reading list out there. Makes me think about those guys who pretend to be war heros to get attention... kinda sad.

I'm only about halfway through Charlie Wilson's War right now. Makes me wonder - could it be made up? Actually, I think his antics were so crazy they've got to be true.
